………BACK FROM OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED WORLD CUP DELAY……..

Cashier’s Corner:

Mojave (2015)

This movie had some bright moments: Oscar Isaac’s Hulk Hogan impression; brother, Walton Goggins taking a call on a fainting couch in his whitey-tighties with knee-high socks smoking a cigarette; Oscar Isaac carrying around that little dog. The pitch of this movie must have been something like “imagine a neo-noir a la Cormac McCarthy with the guy who could have been on Sons of Anarchy”. But maybe the writer had run out of words from his previous movies because this one didn’t have many nor were the images to replace them all that interesting. This one is worth watching for Oscar Isaac’s performance. Game on, brother, game on.

Sphere (1998)

This Michael Crichton adaptation slid under my radar (sonar?) and probably for the best. An interesting idea turned less interesting movie led by an all-star cast: Samuel L. Jackson, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber, Dustin Hoffman, and a young Queen Latifah(!). I appreciated the heavy use of practical effects in an era rife with bad CGI, although, see going into the sphere lol. This should be playing every other Saturday on AMC in the backgrounds of homes across America; you don’t need to pay attention, but you might look up and be surprised by Queen Latifah’s character getting mauled by jellyfish!!

Recently Consumed:

Suspect Zero (2004) - They took some real swings with this one. Best Eckhart in a while tho

! - Fuze (2026) - There shouldn’t be a sequel, but it’s a fun little world that was created. Almost Den of Thieves-esque

? - Superman (2025) - Why won’t he just name his robot butlers?

! - Tuner (2025) - I can’t believe they actually got Herbie Hancock

Conspiracy Theory (1997) - How did she get from the horse farm back to the city?!?!

? - Mojave (2015) - Oscar Isaac’s voice in this is a real choice, but Walton Goggins’ introduction is chef’s kiss

Sphere (1998) - What if we’ve all been inside the sphere???

[! - worth your time]
[? - maybe worth your time?]
[x - stay away it’s rotten]
