Cashier’s Corner:
Crime 101 (2026)
Consider me surprised with this crime flick starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, and Barry Keoghan. If I’m being picky, this film could have ratcheted up the tension even more, but I won’t let enjoyable get in the way of perfect. It clearly draws on previous California-based crime/heist flicks with Heat and Drive being two that come to mind. The car vs dirtbike chase between Hemsworth and Keoghan in the middle is an absolute highlight.
Watcher (2022)
This one got me with some good psychological chills, and it wasn’t just the cold, grey Bucharest backdrop. There was a point near the end where I didn’t know what was going to happen to Maika Monroe’s character! The look she gives her husband tho? Or should I say soon to be ex-husband??? Seemed like they lived in a dope apartment at least, I mean those windows!
Violent Ends (2025)
Oofmagoof. Arkansas in the 90s, what a time to be dead alive. James Badge Dale plays a pretty good villain, with not just his character being bad, I mean let’s talk about that haircut! Billy Magnussen coming with that Michael Corleone: I-don’t-want-to-be-a-part-of-the-family-business-but-I-just-can’t-escape-it attitude. At least he doesn’t have to live the rest of his life with that F branded on his face, ouchie. And his mom’s the sheriff of the town? How’d that all work out for everyone?
